Good Neighbors Stay Informed. Great Neighbors Get Involved.

Annual Report

The foundation of a house supports and holds the structure. It takes the longest to construct yet once built, it is never seen again. Similarly, there are many foundational things we do as an organization that are created, some large and some small, that work behind the scenes to hold and support us as we work towards our vision through our mission. They are sometimes forgotten but are some of the most important things we do.

Below is the Annual Report for the previous year which outlines these foundational things along with projects that we accomplished that year. We could not do any of this without the support of our members both financially and through their volunteerism. Thank you!

FMIA Annual Report
October 2022 - September 2023

Summary

This last year was filled with new zoning regulations that if not thoughtfully explored could have detrimental effects on our neighborhood. The zoning for Short Term Rentals and Parklets were areas where we educated ourselves about the new zoning laws, then informed the neighborhood about the potential issues and worked with the City to help them understand how these would affect our quality of life.

Our monthly meetings are where we gather to discuss topics of interest and our Meet the Neighbors social is where we support our local businesses, network and build community.

Accomplishments: This Last Year

  • Informed residents on neighborhood issues through our monthly meetings to include Short Term Rentals, Parklets, and new developments that are outside Historic District Zoning.
  • Worked with the City to find solutions to the ongoing issues with nuisance bars.
  • Spearheaded a Security Camera Registration for our area to increase our safety and assist police in investigating crimes.
  • Discussed important topics and enlisted informative speakers at our monthly meetings to help educate and inform residents such as Ed Michel, Office of Inspector General, City's Parking Enforcement, the City's Director of Sanitation, Simone Levine and Jahanna Cannon-Brightman, the Chief Program Officer from NORD to name a few.
  • Worked with neighborhood businesses through our Meet the Neighbors social to support local businesses and build community.
  • Worked with the Audubon Institute and neighbors on the development of Esplanade Wharf
  • Worked with Pepp's Pub to galvanize residents for our monthly Neighborhood Clean Ups
  • Published our Weekly Eblast, La Vie de Marigny, that informs residents about what is going on in the neighborhood and to include service interruptions, street closures, filming in the neighborhood, etc. along with information about community meetings related to the organization and other topics of interest.
  • Continued our worked to beautify the public green spaces on Franklin Ave to keep our neighborhood beautiful.
