Lately, the Faubourg Marigny Improvement Association (FMIA) has been unfairly scapegoated as the reason behind the denial of some short-term rental exceptions. Let’s be clear—this is simply untrue. The FMIA neither approves nor rejects short-term rental applications or exceptions. We are not a policy maker or an enforcement body for the city’s regulations on short-term rentals.

What we do have is a Short-Term Rental Committee. This committee was formed after we noticed an alarming trend—our neighborhood was emptying out, with homes being converted into short-term rentals, many illegally operated and owned by out-of-state investors. Our committee exists to monitor the situation and advocate for the preservation of the Marigny's unique character.

While we don’t need to relitigate the well-documented effects that large numbers of short-term rentals can have on a neighborhood’s affordability and sense of community, our concern has always been the quality of life in Faubourg Marigny. We fully support legally registered short-term rentals, long-term rentals, and traditional Bed and Breakfasts that contribute positively to our neighborhood.

If you wish to report an illegally operating short-term rental, please do so by emailing the STR committee. If you want to support your neighbors who are legally operating or applying for an exception, we encourage you to attend their NPP (Neighborhood Participation Program) community meeting. This allows you to voice your support or concerns and ensures your opinion becomes part of the public record for that particular application.

Our goal remains the same: to ensure that Faubourg Marigny retains its charm, livability, and sense of community for both residents and visitors.
